NMPF excited for Vilsack’s White House return

The head of the National Milk Producers Federation says Tom Vilsack’s passion and commitment to the rural economy just scratches the surface of reasons why he’s a good fit to return to the White House as the Secretary of Agriculture.

“He has a deep understanding of our industry and frankly, I think a deeper understanding of all of U.S. agriculture.”

Jim Mulhern tells Brownfield the dairy industry pursued Vilsack to lead the U.S. Dairy Export Council after his time as the Ag Secretary under the Obama Administration.

“We had the need to grow our presence in the international markets and he has tremendous respect not only in the U.S. but around the world.  We couldn’t think of any better ambassador for U.S. dairy.”

Mulhern says the dairy sector has focused on sustainability and reducing carbon emissions which he believes was a main reason for President-elect Biden to choose Vilsack and likely to carry over into voluntary federal programs.

Krysta Harden, Chief Operating Officer of USDEC and former Deputy Secretary of Agriculture, will succeed Vilsack once he’s officially sworn in as Ag Secretary.
