New TV series will highlight the life of an Illinois specialty crop farmer

The story of young woman saving her family’s specialty crop farm and turning it into the largest pumpkin producer in the nation has been portrayed in a book and will soon be viewed as a TV series.

Sarah Frey, founder of Frey Farms in southern Illinois first published her story in a book titled “The Growing Season” in August of 2020.

“Life is just a series of a bunch of growing seasons. The ones that are bountiful are incredible and bring us joy and we learn a lot during the fallow growing seasons in life.”

She says she will now co-produce a dramatized TV series based on her story that is scheduled to air on ABC in 2022. Frey says viewers will experience the successes and struggles of a specialty crop farm each time they watch it.

“I don’t know that I have ever seen anything done that really highlights what we do as an industry, so that is probably one of the things that I am most excited about.”

Frey was a keynote speaker during the virtual 2021 Illinois Specialty Crops Conference. Frey farms also has locations in six other states including Minnesota, Indiana, Missouri and Arkansas.
