New round of food box program purchases announced

A fourth round of funding totaling $500 million will be used to help those in need through USDA’s Farmers to Family Food Box Program.

U.S. Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue says the $3.5 billion that’s been given to food programs has been a win-win for farmers and families alike.

“We were able to stretch out those initial dollars, along with the president’s addition of $1 billion, we’re continuing through November and December and will continue to evaluate as we go forward.”

The program has distributed more than 110 million food boxes across the country so far which include produce, dairy, and meat products.

Brownfield interviewed Perdue during his recent visit to Michigan.
