New MCGA president says lawnmower got a workout in 2020

A Minnesota farmer asked about harvest says the machine with the most hours on it in 2020 will probably be his lawnmower.

Tim Waibel and his family grow corn and soybeans near Courtland in the south-central part of the state.

“We were in an area that continually got rain and we got heat, so we were mowing our lawn twice a week, so in turn what that tells me is that the crop had plenty of water. And we’re seeing that in the yields now.”

The new president of the Minnesota Corn Growers Association tells Brownfield there are a few areas that had too much water.

“But certainly across the board and across the field, our crops have been very strong, the strongest I’ve seen them. We’ve harvested our soybeans so far, and we just got back into corn.”

Waibel says the corn he was picking Tuesday had dried down a couple of percentage points the past few days to 19 percent.
