New dairy collaboration hones in on logistical backlogs

The International Dairy Foods Association has crafted a partnership with the Port of Los Angeles and a shipping logistics company to work through supply chain issues.

The Dairy Exports Working Group plans to analyze West Coast ports and opportunities to streamline dairy product movement across the U.S. to reach end destinations more efficiently.

The groups hope the efforts will clear bottlenecks throughout ports and rail systems as record dairy demand continues.

IDFA says while the industry exported near or above record levels in 2020 and 2021 throughout the pandemic, a strained supply chain is costing U.S. dairy companies millions of dollars and damaging their credibility as a reliable supplier.
