The new Costco poultry plant in Fremont, Nebraska will begin processing its first chickens next week.

Spokeswoman Jessica Kolterman tells Brownfield they’ll process “a small test batch” next week to make sure all the equipment is working. The official startup of the plant will take place September 9th.

Kolterman say there will be a 45-week ramp-up to full production. At that point, the plant, which is run by Lincoln Premium Poultry, will be providing Costco with more than two million chickens each week.

The plant has been under construction since 2017.
