New Biden admin plan aims to fight hunger

The Biden administration has unveiled a plan to address food-security challenges.

Samantha Power, Administrator of the US Agency for International Development, says the Global Food Security Research Strategy will use data to help strengthen the impact of U.S. food security assistance.

“It will focus investments and research on three key areas,” Power said. “Genetic improvements of crops and livestock, climate-smart agriculture, and improved nutrition.”

She says it will help build medium to long-term sustainable food systems by investing in practices that combat climate change.

“I urge all of our partners to join us in pursuing this vision for a sustainable and resilient agricultural future,” Power said. “One designed not just to feed us today, but to protect our tomorrow.”

Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack says the investments will enhance farmer productivity and help fight hunger around the globe.

Power spoke during the 2022 Borlaug Dialogue in Des Moines, Iowa.
