Nebraska’s corn harvest picking up steam

After a slow start, Nebraska’s corn harvest is starting to pick up steam.

Last week’s temperatures, which averaged ten degrees above normal for mid-to-late October, aided the drydown of the corn crop.  As of Sunday, 40 percent of the crop was harvested compared to 59 average.

Soybean harvest was 87 percent complete, sorghum at 50 percent and dry beans at 97 percent.

The winter wheat crop is off to a good start.  It’s rated 81 percent good to excellent and 18 percent fair.
