Nebraska young farmer wins Syngenta’s #RootedinAg contest

A young farmer from northeast Nebraska is the winner of Syngenta’s #RootedinAg Contest. 

The contest invites farmers to describe the person who has most nourished their agricultural roots. Contest winner Hannah Borg of Wakefield, Nebraska paid tribute to her 86-year old grandmother, Lois Borg.

“Grandma still lives on the farm that was founded 135 years ago,” Borg says. “She is always up for riding to town for parts or going to all the sports games. She always hosts all of our holidays and she’s just really the glue that hold us together—and is really an important part of all of our lives.”

Borg says her grandmother has passed down many stories about their sixth-generation family farm.

“It’s just been a really fun thing to have access to my family’s history like that, and then also get to know and understand what it took to build what I’m able to live on today.”

The 22-year old Borg is part of her family’s row crop, cattle and chicken operation in northeast Nebraska.

Syngenta marketing communications lead Pam Caraway says the number of submissions this year was one of the largest they’ve seen in the seven years of the #RootedinAg contest.

“Every year, we have the privilege of hearing the stories of people in the ag community whose peers, mentors and family members have inspired them,” Caraway said. “And every year, we learn something new about this community, which has engrained itself within all of us – and become a part of our DNA. Hannah’s video about her grandma resonates with everyone who hears her story.”
