Nebraska wheat conditions mixed on month

The USDA is reporting some improvement in soil moisture levels in Nebraska.

Even with that month-to-month improvement, most of the state remains locked in drought, with soil moisture levels below a year ago.

18% of Nebraska’s winter wheat crop is called good to excellent, 2% less than last month, with 46% rated fair, 5% more than a month ago, and 36% in poor to very poor shape, down 3%.

This time last year, 39% of Nebraska’s winter wheat crop was in good to excellent condition.

The USDA’s next set of state crop and weather stories is out January 31st.
