Nebraska farmer witnesses USMCA signing

Nebraska farmer Debbie Borg was among the dozens of farmers who attended the signing of the USMCA trade pact at the White House this week.

“It was really exciting to be there, and as I was traveling home, it’s like, ‘what an honor to be at such a monumental event’,” Borg says. “It was really cool to hear the president give a shout-out to Senator Deb Fischer and our Governor Ricketts—and quite a few other Midwest people.

“It goes to show the value of being involved and what can happen when everybody’s working together.”

Borg says the finalization of USMCA, coupled with the phase one agreement with China, has her feeling a bit more optimistic.

“Everybody would like to see our commodity prices higher and we hope that a more level playing field and more opportunities will raise our commodity prices,” she says. “I don’t know that everybody’s feeling great yet, but we sure feel a lot better because this is another step in the right direction.”

Borg serves on the Nebraska Corn Board.  She and her family farm near Allen, Nebraska.
