Near perfect planting season for MO farmer

A west-central Missouri farmer says this has been one of the best planting seasons he’s had.

“We’ve had just the right kind of weather,” said Ronnie Russel. “We’ve had some rain, we’ve had some great growing periods.”

Russel tells Brownfield the positive weather has benefitted his corn crop with most of it planted, emerged, and growing…

“I’ve seen some corn as tall as about eight inches,” he said. “And I’ve seen some corn that’s spiking up.”

As for his soybeans…

“I’m probably upwards toward 85 percent done with soybean planting,” he said.

Russel grows corn, soybeans, and wheat and runs a cow/calf operation near Kansas City.

Brownfield’s Kellan Heavican contributed to this article.
