Near normal March weather for Iowa

The USDA says March was a pretty normal month overall for Iowa agriculture.

Warmer temperatures helped cover crops and pastures start to green up and while fieldwork was limited by rain and melting snow, producers did apply dry fertilizer and anhydrous when conditions allowed and oat planting was reported in some southern areas.

The wet conditions also limited grain movement in parts of the state.

There were no major issues reported for calving and hay supplies were adequate, but feedlots are muddy.

The USDA’s weekly crop progress and condition reports resume April 6th.
