NCGA seeks more fertilizer access awareness

The president of the National Corn Growers Association says it’s important for USDA to understand the impact higher fertilizer prices have on farmers’ operations.

Chris Edgington tells Brownfield, “On 200 pounds of nitrogen a year ago I spent probably $80 or $85,” he said. “This year it is $200 and more.”

He says soaring prices have caused producers to scale back. “This really can have an effect on overall yield, which means overall supply,” Edgington said.

USDA is currently accepting comments on competition and supply chain concerns. NCGA is encouraging corn growers to comment specifically on accessibility, price volatility and market competition.

The comment period closes May 16th. The online form can be accessed by clicking here.
