NCBA calls for enhanced LRP in next farm bill

The National Cattlemen’s Beef Association wants to see enhanced risk management tools in the next farm bill.

NCBA president Don Schiefelbein says Livestock Risk Protection is a priority in the 2023 Farm Bill.

“We have to make sure that every sized farmer and rancher can use that to their advantage.”

Speaking to Brownfield at the Minnesota Cattle Industry Convention in Willmar, Minnesota, he says LRP must better protect producers against volatility.

“We’ve come a long way, but to me the next farm bill, this is where we fine-tune those knobs and make sure that when somebody says Livestock Risk Protection, and you ask if anybody is participating, the hands of everybody goes up in the room.”

Schiefelbein is a seedstock breeder and cattle feeder from Kimball in central Minnesota.
