National Farmers Organization focused on trade

The National Farmers Organization wants to see follow through from China on the phase one trade agreement. 

NFO legislative coordinator Gene Paul calls the trade deal with China a mixed bag for U.S. agriculture.

“We keep hearing reports that China is going to start buying $50 billion-worth of farm production. The most they ever bought before was $20 billion. So I think it’s unrealistic to think that tomorrow they’re going to start buying.”

Speaking to Brownfield at the NFO Convention in Bloomington, Minnesota, he says repairing the damage caused by the trade war won’t be easy.

“When these tariffs were put in place, they found some other suppliers. So I think rebuilding these markets with China is going to take some time.”

Paul also has concerns about the U.S. Mexico Canada Agreement, but says it is better than NAFTA.
