NASDA Tri Lateral Ag Trade Accord opens

The keynote speaker at the Tri-Lateral Ag Trade Accord held by the National Association of State Departments of Agriculture says the USMCA has strengthened the integration of ag trade in the three North American countries. Michael Anderson, vice president of trade with the Corn Refiners Association, says while there are always challenges, the benefits outweigh them.

“This North American agriculture market integration enables ag producers in the region to leverage their relative strengths and to respond more efficiently to changing economic conditions.”

And, he says the USMCA is also a benefit for consumers.

“The integrated market provides access to new varieties of food products and off-season supplies of fresh produce. Consumers also benefit from more affordable food choices, thereby expanding consumer purchasing power.”

Anderson says it’s important to acknowledge that not all trade policy is made at the federal/national level.

“You are all at the intersection of connecting the farmers, the producers with policy makers whether it’s in Washington, D.C. or in your governors’ offices and that’s an important role you play.”

The NASDA Tri-Lateral Ag Trade Accord with counterparts from Mexico and Canada continues Tuesday and Wednesday.
