NAMI forms Protein PACT with partners

The North American Meat Institute (NAMI) has launched a Protein PACT with industry-related partners to raise the profile of animal protein and its benefits.

The Meat Institute’s Eric Mittenthal tells Brownfield the Protein PACT was formed, “To demonstrate how animal protein is a solution for healthy people, healthy animals and a healthy planet. It’s something we’re going to be working on for the next decade to drive continuous improvement in the industry and communicate that.”

He says many companies have made strong commitments to animal protein, especially over the last several years, “And we want to share those commitments and what they meant to healthy people, healthy animals and a healthy planet and the Protein PACT is all about sharing that and documenting the impact we are having over time.”

Mittenthal says the Protein PACT has been submitted to the UN Food Systems Summit and sustainable livestock and poultry production will be featured there in Rome next week (Tuesday, July 27th).

The Meat Institute has also released its draft sustainability framework for its meat processing members and is seeking public comment.
