Naig pleased with crop conditions

Iowa Ag Secretary Mike Naig says crops are looking good throughout the state despite a dry start to the growing season.

“We got around the 4th of July and started to see above average precipitation. That has really started to change the dynamic out there in terms of this crop.”

He tells Brownfield planting delays were a challenge this year. “We continue to be a few days behind average when it comes to soybean maturity and the corn tasseling. All things being equal, I feel very good about where we are.”

Naig says west-central and northwestern Iowa have been the driest, but some recent, timely rains have helped improve field conditions.
