MU research center expanding focus

The new director of the University of Missouri’s Fisher Delta Research, Extension and Education Center says its working to expand its research.

Aaron Brandt tells Brownfield the center is working with several partners, like state soybean and corn growers associations, to make advancements on many fronts.

“I’m just excited for the rebuilding process we have going on here and getting additional researchers and [a] variety of research objectives,” he said.

The center, headquartered in the southeast corner of Missouri in Portageville, already runs trials on more than 1,100 acres across 12 counties which Brandt said allows several areas of ag to be studied…

“Cotton, rice, farming systems, irrigation, we have a soybean breeding program, a weed science program and we are in the process of hiring a plant protection specialist,” he said.

Brandt said each research group has a range of projects including variety testing.
