Most Wisconsin crops still good to excellent

More than five days were suitable for fieldwork in Wisconsin last week, but some of them were very hot and humid.

USDA reporters say much of the state had good progress with haying and spraying, but some scattered thunderstorms in southern Wisconsin left some wind-damaged crops and some crops yellowing from standing water.  Most of the state is working on 2nd crop hay, with more progress in the southern part of Wisconsin.

Corn is 84% good to excellent and soybeans are 83% good to excellent.  About 16% of oats are turning color.  Potatoes are not rated as high as last week, but still 80% good to excellent.

Most USDA reporters were glad to see some timely rains and hot weather for the crops.
