More than 100,000 pounds of pork donated through Illinois’ Pork Power program in 2019

More than 100,000 pounds of pork was donated to Illinois food pantries in 2019 through the Pork Power program.

“This is just a great program for our pig farmers to give back to their communities.”

Kelsey Burgener with the Illinois Pork Producers Association says that exceeded their goal of 85,000 pounds and set the bar high for 2020.

“Each year, we also do an end of the year Pork Power drive donation and for this year that consisted of over 54,000 pounds.”

She tells Brownfield pork producer in Illinois donate the pork or pigs and the association helps with the processing fees.

Since the program began in 2008, more than 700,000 pounds of pork have been donated to nine Illinois food banks.
