Monsanto sends open reminder letter about 2018 dicamba

Monsanto has released an open letter to farmers from its chief technology officer about the use of its dicamba-tolerant products ahead of the 2018 planting season.

The letter by Robb Fraley says Monsanto has taken “an in-depth look” at questions from customers in 2017, using it as a base of information for extensive training this year, along with EPA requirements.

The EPA has updated the label for dicamba products as Restricted Use Pesticides which means all applicators have to complete dicamba or auxin-specific training before the 2018 planting season. Fraley says Monsanto will distribute about one-million spray nozzles, free of charge, this year. And, it will launch its RoundUpReady Extend App for keeping records and forecasting temperature inversion risks before spraying. Temperature inversions have been identified as one of the factors causing dicamba spray drift.
