Monsanto says it’s advancing sustainability initiatives
Monsanto officials say the company has made progress on sustainability commitments in the areas of climate-smart agriculture, water quality, biodiversity and food security. According to the company, the plan includes collaboration with the National Corn Growers Association, Iowa State University, other agribusinesses and an individual farmer.
It says it’s working with collaborators on infrastructure to improve water quality and donating to an effort to get healthy food to undernourished women and children in Africa. Monsanto says it’s helping restore pollinator and wildlife habitat and donating conventional cotton germplasm lines to the USDA’s National Cotton Collection.
Operationally, Monsanto says it’s diverting almost 90 percent of its waste from landfills and investing in wastewater recycling as well as energy recovery technology.
Monsanto – acquired this year by Bayer – says the efforts are part is its Growing Better Together sustainability plan.
