Moisture lacking in Michigan

The USDA says more regions of Michigan still need rain with the Central Lower Peninsula abnormally dry and counties in East Central Michigan and the Thumb in moderate drought.

The agency says corn condition was reported at 62 percent good to excellent, with 21 percent in the dough stage and 25 percent dented while farmers prepare for corn silage harvest.

Soybeans are rated 57 percent good to excellent with 94 percent filling pods.

Tart cherry harvest is finished in the Northwest while peach harvest continues, blueberries are winding down, and early season apple harvest nears.  Harvest is also underway for cucurbits, early pumpkins, potatoes, and sweet corn.
