MO planting slows, still ahead of normal

Abnormally wet conditions slowed planting progress in Missouri last week.    

The USDA says corn planting reached 90 percent complete last week, 16 percent ahead of last year. More than three quarters of the crop has emerged, 17 percent ahead of last year.   

Soybean planting is ahead of last year with 44 percent of the crop in. Twenty-seven percent of the crop has emerged, eight percent ahead of last year.    

Rice planting is nearly complete at 95 percent done. Eighty-five percent of the crop has emerged, more than 30 percent ahead of last year. 

Nearly all the winter wheat crop has headed at 91 percent. 

Topsoil moisture was 56 percent adequate and 42 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture was 76 percent adequate and 24 percent surplus.
