MO farmer ready to roll planters this week

A central Missouri farmer is hoping this week’s warm forecast will help him catch up on corn planting.

Bill Betteridge tells Brownfield he’s normally done planting corn by May 1st.

“We plant about 200 acres of corn and we only have about 70 done,” he said.

The Cooper County farmer said he expects his already planted corn to turn out but there are some emergence concerns…

“The corn that’s up and out of the ground is going to be alright,” he said. “[But] some of this corn that was planted right before all those hard rains, there’s a little crust (on the ground) and there may be some issue with that.”

Betteridge said he’s not concerned about planting soybeans yet with his focus on corn. Betteridge grows corn, soybeans, and wheat.
