MO crops fall further behind normal planting pace

Planting remains well behind in the state with widespread moisture across Missouri.

USDA says 27 percent of the state’s corn crop is planted, nearly 20 percent behind last year and 25 percent behind the five – year average. Three percent of the crop has emerged, 11 percent behind last year.

Five percent of Missouri’s soybean crop is planted, about half of last year’s total but close to even with the five – year average.

Missouri cotton planting has begun and is five percent ahead of last year at eight percent.

Rice planting is at five percent, 57 percent behind last year.

Missouri’s winter wheat crop improved to 96 percent fair or better, nine percent more of the crop was rated good to excellent over last week. The crop remains well above the national average.

Pasture conditions in the state fell last week but are nearly all fair or good with 54 percent rated good and 39 percent rated fair. Topsoil moisture is 72 percent adequate and 27 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture is 83 percent adequate and 14 percent surplus.
