MO based company receives $150M for food innovation

Crop innovation and food science company Benson Hill has received $150 million for global food innovation. 

The St. Louis based company said the funding will accelerate efforts to expand partnered developments and increase product commercialization. Benson Hill’s leading food innovation tool, CropOS, is used for predictive plant breeding which has been used to create high protein soybeans for more nutritious poultry and swine feed. 

In a release, Benson Hill CEO Matt Crisp said the COVID-19 pandemic has shown strengths and vulnerabilities in the food system and says tools like plant diversity and technology innovation can help make stronger food choices accessible to everyone. 

The two main contributors to Benson Hills’ funding are food and Ag investment group Wheatsheaf Group and GV, formerly known as Google Ventures.
