MO anhydrous regulation bill gaining traction

A bill aimed at reducing anhydrous ammonia regulation is gaining traction in the Missouri Senate.

Senate Bill 37 would give full regulatory control over anhydrous rather than splitting it between MDA and the Missouri Department Natural Resources.

Missouri Farm Bureau’s State Legislative Director BJ Tanksley testified on behalf of the bill.

“I think in the end, you’ll see that the companies that are handling anhydrous ammonia are able to continue to have the oversight that they need for consumers while at the same time not having duplicative regulation from two different departments,” he said.

He tells Brownfield the agribusiness community worked to set up the bill ahead of time streamlining the process.

“They worked with MDA and DNR to make sure that it was a process that worked for everybody,” Tanksley said. “And kind of did their homework and let us know what they were facing and really explained it to us throughout the process.”

The bill passed the Senate Ag Committee without opposition.
