MO ag groups respond to WOTUS injunction

State agriculture groups are applauding a decision from a U.S. District Court in North Dakota to stop the implementation of the Biden administration’s updated Waters of the United States rule.

Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey called the district court’s decision to issue a preliminary injunction a major win for the state’s farmers. Missouri Farm Bureau President Garrett Hawkins tells Brownfield it’s encouraging the updated WOTUS rule has been halted in most states across the country.

“This announcement comes at a critical time when just last week we saw President Biden veto the Congressional resolution of disapproval.”

Missouri Pork Association CEO Don Nikodim says he is disappointed President Biden vetoed the action and now, it will be played out in the court system.

“It’s not a done deal, but at least it gives us breathing room.”

For farmers in Missouri and 25 other states, including Iowa, Nebraska, Ohio and South Dakota, a pre-2015 WOTUS rule is now in effect.
