MN farmer had 2019 struggles fresh in mind during planting

A southeast Minnesota farmer planted his 2020 crop with last year fresh in his mind.

Brennen Toquam of Blooming Prairie farms with his dad and says they started planting April 21^st and finished around May 5th.

“It was kind of funny, we were looking at each other pushing 11, midnight at night, (asking) would we be pushing if we hadn’t experienced the planting season like we did last year? Probably not.”

He tells Brownfield 2019 was too wet, but this year has been close to ideal.

“It all went in relatively easy. And it was kind of weird, I was sitting on my deck having a barley pop at about five o’clock (during) the second week of May. And it’s like ‘this is kind of nice not being in the field on May 10th or whatever.”

Toquam says he’d prefer June being on the dryer side so the corn roots can go deeper.
