MN Farm Bureau president says farm stress level is intensifying

The president of Minnesota Farm Bureau says the level of farm stress is intensifying.

Kevin Paap tells Brownfield several issues combined are causing a lot of anxiety.

“It’s trade, it’s Farm Bill, it’s concerns with the Renewable Fuel Standard, concerns with ag labor and regulation.  It just seems like the intensity is turned up.”

And for some farmers, weather isn’t helping matters.

Paap tells Brownfield parts of southern Minnesota were recently dumped on with up to 7 inches of rain.

“And that just takes a crop that was only an average crop and puts it very much in the wrong direction.  There are a lot of drown-out spots (and) a lot of infrastructure (damage).  So it is a little frustrating.”

Paap is encouraged by progress on the 2018 Farm Bill, saying farmers need that certainty before the current Farm Bill expires September 30th.
