Mixed January conditions across Arkansas

Arkansas was a little warmer and wetter than normal during January.

The USDA says the state averaged four inches of rainfall and the average temperature topped 40 degrees, with parts of Arkansas reporting flooding suspending fieldwork, while other areas said conditions were good and fertilizer application was underway for winter wheat.

Cover crop conditions were also mixed, with low growth reported in areas that planted late.

Cattle are in generally good condition, with hay feeding ongoing and some producers reporting hay shortages.

The USDA’s weekly crop progress and condition reports resume in April.
