Missouri’s Gov. Parson: Ag Day gets farmers’ story to the world

National Ag Day is about getting the farmers’ story to the rest of the world. The message from Missouri Governor Mike Parson – who is also a farmer – is that the vast majority of policy makers are not involved in agriculture.

“Most of the people that sit in those [elected position] seats are not farmers, are not in the arena of agriculture,” said Parson, during a virtual National Ag Day observance, Tuesday. “And that’s where we all play a role in making sure we educate them, that they understand what it’s really like.”

Governor Parson addressed his state’s approach to the global pandemic, saying that farmers had to continue working the land and getting products to market.

“We knew that had to happen,” said Parson, about farmers continuing to produce. “We were kidding ourselves to be able to shut down the food supply in this country and think somehow we’re going to be alright.”

National Ag Day was founded in 1973 by the Agriculture Council of America.
