Missouri State Fair Grand Champion, Reserve steers decided

Bryana Binkley of Jefferson City showed the Grand Champion Market Steer at the Missouri State Fair.   Bryana’s a member of the Calvary Lutheran FFA Chapter.

The Reserve Grand Champion Market Steer was shown by Layne Robinson, a member of the Chillicothe FFA Chapter.

The steers, each weighing a touch more than 1,300 pounds, are two of 12 lots at the Missouri State Fair Sale of Champions Saturday. Sale Superintendent Wayne Yokely tells Brownfield the process young people go through to get to the sale is a good education.

“It develops perseverance, it develops intelligence, it develops the ability to work together and think for yourself and make decisions in a timely fashion” Yokely told Brownfield Ag News.  “It gives you personality development that goes into business that you couldn’t replace in any other way.”

Proceeds from the annual sale benefit the winning exhibitors and the Missouri State Fair Foundation Youth in Agriculture (YIA) Scholarship Program.

Among the other lots in the sale Saturday afternoon will be prize winning barrows, lambs, goats, chickens and rabbits at 1:30 in the Lowell Mohler Assembly Hall.

The Missouri State Fair continues through Sunday.
