Missouri producer feels ‘blessed’ to raise pigs

A pork producer says he feels blessed to be pig farmer. Missouri producer Scott Phillips says he feels entrusted to raise pigs and to take good care of them.

“And with that there’s a stewardship responsibility that comes along with it,” said Phillips, who raises hogs at Drexel, Missouri. “That’s what’s exciting, that’s what’s fun; that’s the reason I do this.”

Consumers want more of the story of how food is produced, says Phillips.

“They want the assurance that we really do care about our pigs,” he said.

Phillips is among the producers attending the National Pork Industry Forum in Orlando, Fla., and was interviewed by AgNewsWire.
