Missouri planting progress slows

Missouri’s planting and crop progress slowed last week with limited days open for field work.

USDA says 91 percent of the state’s corn crop is planted, about even with last year and the average. Corn emergence is still behind at 76 percent.

Fifty-two percent of Missouri’s soybean crop is planted, passing last year and the average.

Missouri cotton planting is three percent behind last year at 93 percent planted.

Rice planting is 90 percent complete, nine percent behind last year but even with the average.

Missouri’s winter wheat crop is on pace at 95 percent headed. Its condition rating fell slightly with 96 percent of the crop fair or better. The crop remains well above the national average.

Pasture conditions in the state mostly held steady last week and are nearly all fair or better; 58 percent rated good, and 10 percent rated excellent. Ground conditions were slightly wetter last week; topsoil moisture is 76 percent adequate and 23 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture is 85 percent adequate and 13 percent surplus.
