Missouri governor to lead Brazil trade mission

Two global Missouri-based ag companies will be among those represented on Governor Jay Nixon’s trade mission to Brazil which starts this Saturday: Monsanto of St. Louis and Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica of St. Joseph, Missouri. Nixon says the trip is about increasing direct trade with Brazil, Missouri’s 10th largest export market – and, thereby, boosting Missouri’s economy and creating jobs. Agriculture products are among the state’s top exports to Brazil as are chemicals, transportation equipment and computers.

Last year, Missouri businesses set a record for overall exports – selling more than 14 Billion worth of goods worldwide.

While in Brazil, Nixon will sign an agreement with the Governor of Sao Paulo to increase Missouri exports and expand educational and cultural relationships with Brazil. Senate Ag Chairman Mike Parson and State Ag Department Director Jon Hagler will be among those on the trip which goes through next Thursday. Senator Parson owns and operates a cow-calf operation near Bolivar, Missouri.

The Governor’s office says the non-profit economic development Hawthorn Foundation is paying for the trip.
