Missouri Governor Parson relates to drought concerns

Missouri’s Governor and Ag Director say they’re doing everything they can to help producers in the drought.

More Missouri counties are now in exceptional drought – and the need for relief keeps growing. Governor Mike Parson, who raises cattle in southwest Missouri, is feeling the effects, “I have NEVER fed hay in August before in my entire farming career, and that started out as a little boy. But, I did last Saturday. So, it’s hard hit in a lot of areas of the state so if you’re in one of those that hasn’t had any rain, it’s tough right now.”

Missouri Ag Director Chris Chinn says her department is working with the USDA on drought assistance, and check in with your local FSA office, “I just encourage every farmer – go into your county office and CALL back. If you go and you’re not in that status yet where you qualify for resources, they need to check back in a couple weeks. Because if you’re not getting rain, you’re status is probably being upgraded.”
