Missouri Farm Bureau takes stance on Federal Milk Marketing Order

Missouri Farm Bureau members set their dairy policy priorities ahead of the upcoming farm bill discussions.

Vice President Todd Hays chairs the Missouri Farm Bureau resolutions committee. He tells Brownfield the updates to dairy policy align with next steps from the Federal Milk Marketing Forum, held in Kansas City earlier this fall.

“It’s a cumbersome issue: milk marketing and dairy policy. There aren’t as many dairy producers in Missouri as there once was.”

Missouri Farm Bureau supports higher differentials to efficiently move to Class I markets and tighter qualification criteria on Federal Milk Marketing Order pools.

“Those changes will go on to American Farm Bureau to work on policy at that level, to help create a federal standard.”

Missouri Farm Bureau also supports returning the Class I mover to a higher-of formula in the next farm bill.
