Missouri Drive to Feed Kids aims to raise money, food

Missouri agriculture businesses and groups are coming together to address food insecurity among Missouri children. There are many Missouri children who face hunger on a regular basis, according to Ashley McCarty, executive director of Missouri Farmers Care.

“Statistics say it’s one in five children have not known where their next meal is going to come from or have headed to bed or to school with empty bellies,” said McCarty.

This year’s Drive to Feed Kids will raise funds to provide food for hungry Missouri children. McCarty says the 2019 drive culminates in August at the Missouri State Fair.

“Seven hundred of Missouri’s youth will come together and bring the kids feeding kids into focus,” McCarty told Brownfield Ag News, “where they spend one of the last days of their summer, pack over 100,000 meals for kids in their community and families in their community.”

Missouri Farmers Care, Brownfield Ag News, Bayer, Missouri Department of Agriculture, Missouri State Fair and Missouri FFA Association are among the partners in the drive that last year collected nearly 19,000 pounds of food and packed more than 100,000 meals.
