Missouri Corn Growers on legislative priorities

The Missouri Corn Growers Association supports transportation and regulatory legislation in the 2018 session, which starts Wednesday, January 3rd.

Samantha Davis, associate director of public policy, says they back the “Clean Water Law” bill that ties in with Governor Eric Grietens regulatory review and “No Mo Red Tape” initiative, “In current law, there is kind of a hole where farmers could be potentially regulated by DNR in certain cases where there are non-point sources. So, we’ve decided that we wanted to move forward with some legislation to try and close that loophole so farmers have that certainty, knowing that one day DNR isn’t going to up and decide that they want to come out and require permit for some of their operations.” Senate Bill 823 is sponsored by Missouri Senator David Schatz.

Davis tells Brownfield Ag News the Missouri Corn Growers also support two bills to increase funding for transportation improvements in the state.
