Missouri Cattlemen’s urges unprecedented aid

The Missouri Cattlemen’s Association is asking the state’s congressional delegation and other leaders for financial assistance for Missouri cattle producers in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic.

The letter says “the economic and financial fallout of the coronavirus COVID-19 is beyond comprehension” and the financial destruction is compounded by the severe drought followed by unprecedented flooding in many regions of Missouri.

They say the market disruptions caused by the fire at Tyson’s Kansas beef processing facility eight months ago caused an “extensive drain of equity” for the state’s cattle producers.

Missouri Cattlemen’s is asking for disaster assistance as part of a stimulus package to deal with the Covid-19 crisis. They want Market Facilitation Program payments or a similar program to include cattle producers.
