Missouri Ag Department issues meat law guidelines

The Missouri Department of Agriculture has released guidelines on the implementation of the state’s updated meat advertising law.

The law first went into effect in 1985 to promote truthful and accurate advertising. On August 28th, the updated law intends to prevent “the misrepresentation of a product as meat if it is not derived from livestock or poultry.”

Among the guidelines set forth in the Missouri Meat and Poultry Inspection program is a prominent statement on the front of a package, right before the product name, of plant-based, veggie, lab grown, lab-created or something equivalent.
