Minnesota soy farmer surprised by white mold pressure

A west-central Minnesota farmer is surprised by the amount of white mold in his soybeans.

Chad Willis of Willmar says the unique growing season has kept him on his toes.

“I’m starting to see some white mold show up. Personally, I didn’t think it would be that bad this year with the shorter soybeans. But after listening to some agronomists, the colder mornings where we don’t dry out very fast has been a hindrance.”

He tells Brownfield surrounding fields also show signs of white mold.

And with soybean development behind, Willis says the second flush of weeds has come on strong.

“From the rows not closing this year.”

Willis says his beans have good pod sets, but he’s concerned an early frost could rob some of his yield.
