Minnesota House passes bonding bill containing Section 179 conformity

A top priority for several Minnesota ag groups has resurfaced as Governor Walz seeks to extend his emergency powers.

House Ag and Food, Finance and Policy Division chair Jeanne Poppe says last night during the latest special session the House passed a bill that includes full Section 179 conformity.

“Very strong bipartisan support. It does include bonding provisions, a tax provision which is primarily the Section 179 conformity, and then some supplemental spending that was kind of on the docket for the last number of months.”

The bill passed 100 to 34 and moves to the Senate, which plans to reconvene around midday today.

“Getting it passed, and with such strong bipartisan support I think is really good evidence for the need or desire to get this done.”

The legislation provides retroactive full Section 179 conformity for like-kind exchange properties.  Poppe tells Brownfield she’s confident the Senate will approve the bill and Governor Walz will sign it into law.
