Minnesota Farmers Union president part of DC fly-in

Farmers Union members are in Washington this week sharing priorities with the administration and members of Congress.

Minnesota Farmers Union president Gary Wertish says the annual fly-in provides an opportunity to advocate for agriculture and rural America.

He tells Brownfield maintaining a strong safety net in the next farm bill is critical.

“And if there are ways to improve or increase it.”

He says the importance of trade was communicated.

“As far as the administration (on trade), you just have to have an all-of-the-above approach and work well with other countries around the world and trying to keep expanding our trade markets to sell our commodities and products into those countries.”

Wertish also attended a ceremony hosted by President Biden celebrating the Inflation Reduction Act.

Farmers Union members met directly with Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack, as well as heads of the Federal Trade and Commodity Futures Trading Commissions.
