Minnesota farmers limited by cool, damp weather, says USDA

Cool and damp conditions are keeping most Minnesota farmers out of the field.

In its first weekly crop progress report of the year, the USDA says there were only scattered reports of manure and fertilizer applications on dry land.

There’s frost in the ground and snow cover in some parts of the state as well.

Topsoil moisture levels are rated 85 percent adequate to surplus, and subsoil moisture levels are 74 percent adequate to surplus.
