Minnesota farmer welcomes needed moisture

A farmer in south-central Minnesota recently welcomed much needed rain.

Dennis Schmidt of New Ulm says June was very dry and his corn was suffering.

“You could really already see gravely pockets (and) sandy pockets where the corn was firing extremely bad.”

He tells Brownfield that was before three inches of rain fell Thursday night.

“So my feeling is we’ve got an awfully good potential for this corn crop yet. Germination is good, stand is good.”

Schmidt says one benefit of June being dry was he got all his weed spraying done.

Schmidt made these comments during Brownfield affiliate KNUJ‘s Farm Forum Friday.
